In a thrilling showdown in The Hundred, Annabel Sutherland led the way as the Northern Superchargers triumphed over the Manchester Originals, bundling out their former side for a mere 92 runs. The Superchargers posted a respectable total of 138 for 4, with Sutherland notching up 44 runs and Phoebe Litchfield contributing a valuable 43 runs. Lauren Filer from the Originals stood out with her bowling, taking 2 for 16 in a brilliant spell.
The Headingley stadium witnessed a record crowd of 11,061 as the Originals won the toss and elected to field first. The partnership of Hollie Armitage and Litchfield added 47 runs for the Superchargers, before Sutherland and Litchfield displayed their skills with the bat, falling just short of half-centuries. The home team seemed set to reach a score of 150, but the Originals managed to rein them in towards the end of the innings.
However, the Originals’ chase did not go as planned, as they lost both openers Wolvaardt and Mooney early on. Kate Cross of the Superchargers dismissed Wolvaardt, who had shone in the Originals’ previous chase of 136. The away team struggled to put up a fight, losing wickets at regular intervals to the Superchargers’ varied attack. Cross was the standout bowler, finishing with figures of 4 for 20.
Annabel Sutherland, the Meerkat Match Hero for the second consecutive game, praised her team’s effort, saying, “It was a complete team performance out there. I thought we did a really good job with the bat. We came out hard on a very good wicket, and the bowlers got the job done.” She added, “It felt like a good wicket, you could hit through the line of the ball and trust your swing. Our bowlers also made it look like there was more in it than there was, so I’m really proud of the group.”
The Northern Superchargers celebrated their second consecutive win, taking their tally to two victories from four games in the competition. The fans at Headingley were treated to a pulsating contest between two talented teams, with the Superchargers emerging victorious in the end.
