In a thrilling match at Beckenham, Middlesex emerged victorious over Kent in the Metro Bank Cup, with a five-wicket win. Joe Cracknell was the hero of the day, smashing 88 runs off just 82 balls to lead Middlesex to their victory. He was supported by Robbie White, who contributed a valuable 50 runs as Middlesex chased down Kent’s total of 204 with 8.4 overs to spare, finishing on 206 for 5.
Kent’s innings got off to a rocky start, losing Beyers Swanepoel early on. Despite Marcus O’Riordan’s valiant effort with a top score of 58, Kent struggled to build meaningful partnerships. Eventually, Hamid Qadri and Matt Parkinson managed to push them past the 200 mark. The bowling attack from Middlesex, led by Josh de Caires, Henry Brookes, and Nathan Fernandes, chipped away at Kent’s lineup, with each taking two wickets apiece.
De Caires made an immediate impact, dismissing Joey Evison and later trapping O’Riordan lbw. Jaydn Denly and Harry Finch fell in quick succession, followed by Jack Leaning’s dismissal thanks to a superb catch by Sam Robson. Kent’s hopes of a competitive total took a hit as Grant Stewart was also sent packing by Brookes.
Although Parkinson endured a scare when he was struck on the helmet, he carried on and managed to put together a vital partnership with Qadri. However, once Qadri fell, Middlesex quickly wrapped up the innings, leaving Parkinson stranded on 17 not out.
Middlesex’s chase got off to a shaky start, as Stewart claimed early wickets. However, they quickly regained their composure and steadily built towards their target. Fernandes fell early on, but Middlesex’s openers raced to 25 without loss before Stewart struck again. The rest of Middlesex’s batsmen showed resilience as they secured the win with ease.
Overall, it was a commanding performance by Middlesex, led by Cracknell’s explosive batting display. Kent fought hard, but Middlesex’s bowlers proved too much to handle, leading to a convincing victory for the visitors.
