In a thrilling match at Lord’s, Australian’s first half-century of the season proved to be the game-changer as Georgia Redmayne led London Spirit to a crucial victory over Manchester Originals in the Hundred tournament. Redmayne’s unbeaten 66 off 59 balls guided Spirit to a comfortable win, chasing down a target of 113 with eight balls to spare.
The innings had a shaky start for Spirit, but Redmayne’s composed batting and Heather Knight’s support with 29 off 27 balls ensured a smooth chase. The duo capitalized on the dropped catches by Originals, who missed crucial opportunities to break the partnership.
The bowling attack of Charlie Dean and Sarah Glenn restricted Originals to a modest total of 112, with Dean picking up 3 wickets for 20 runs. The fielding performance by Spirit was exceptional throughout the game, with Glenn taking a brilliant caught and bowled and Cordelia Griffith making a superb catch in the deep to dismiss Emma Lamb.
Despite Kathryn Bryce’s valiant effort with the bat, scoring 32 from 27 balls, Originals struggled to build partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals. Spirit’s disciplined bowling and fielding efforts kept the opposition in check and secured the much-needed victory.
Reflecting on her match-winning performance, Redmayne expressed, “It was a little bit of a tricky wicket. We bowled really well to keep them to that total. I did not start great but it was nice to get some time in the middle in the end. I tried to stay calm and play to my strengths – you try to get one or two away, and then be on your way.”
The win propels London Spirit into the last Eliminator spot, setting up an exciting showdown in the knockout stages of the tournament. As the race for the title heats up, Spirit will be looking to carry the momentum forward and make a strong case for the championship.
