In a thrilling match on a slow, low wicket at Trent Bridge, Marizanne Kapp once again showed her exceptional talent with both bat and ball, leading the Oval Invincibles to a hard-fought victory over the Trent Rockets by five wickets. With this win, the Invincibles secured a spot in the Hundred eliminator against London Spirit at The Oval.
Kapp’s stellar performance saw her take 3 wickets for just 8 runs in her spell and also score an unbeaten 26 runs to guide her team to victory. Reflecting on her all-round display, Kapp humbly said, “I’m just happy to get over the line today. I’ve been in that situation a lot of times for all the franchises I’ve played for around the world, so it helps a lot. I can’t think about [the eliminator] at the moment: today was too stressful. But I’m happy to go through.”
The chase for the Invincibles started positively, with Chamari Athapaththu hitting three early boundaries before being dismissed for 16. Despite a few quick wickets, the team remained steady in their approach, with Paige Scholfield playing a crucial role with the bat.
As the required run rate mounted, Kapp launched a counter-attack with some well-timed boundaries, relieving the pressure on the chasing team. Scholfield’s contribution with the bat was also vital as she played some aggressive shots to bring the equation down to 22 runs required from 30 balls.
Although a couple of late wickets fell, Kapp held her nerve and steered the Oval Invincibles to victory with six balls to spare. Her impact was felt right from the start of the match, as she picked up early wickets with her skillful bowling, setting the tone for her team’s performance.
Overall, it was a great display of skill and determination from Marizanne Kapp, who once again proved why she is considered one of the top all-rounders in the women’s game. The Oval Invincibles will be banking on her form as they gear up to face London Spirit in the upcoming eliminator at The Oval.
